And just like that… I’m another year older. For some reason, I don’t make a big deal of my birthday. I don’t know what it is. I guess it’s because I’m a pretty low-key chica. As simple as it sounds, I’m just happy to be here another year. I’m 39 today and inching really close to the big 4-0! Wow! The last time I made a big deal of my birthday, I went to Paris to turn 30 and ended up engaged. I think 40 will be the next big deal birthday for me.
Here’s a few things I’ve learned over the last 39 years…
We all get more than One Act – There are so many things that change us as women. If you get married, that last name change can do something to your identity. Once you have children, there’s another switch up to your identity. Have another child, become a stay at home mom and the identity shifts just keep coming. That’s been my story. What I’ve learned is that all of these changes are really just opportunities to peel back layers. Under those layers, I re-discover parts of myself that I’d forgotten about while still making the transition into a better version of me.
Big risks do pay off – Leaving my safe TV job to move to L.A. and go for my dream of a career in entertainment TV was crazy. I can admit that now. Coming here with literally nothing but my dreams was risky. The time I spent working my butt off to reach my dream convinced me that I can do anything I set out to do. The hunger of starting from zero all over again just made me that much more determined and ambitious. The risk to come here paid off career wise and life wise.
Kids change things…for the better – Having my kids has been a huge factor in my persistance to chase my dreams. I really believe in being a role model for them of what’s possible. Their take on the world is inspiring. Sure, they’re naive, but it’s also refreshing to be so whimsical and full of joy. I borrow that from them as much as possible.
If you say it, you gotta do it! – I pushed through my comfort zone a few weeks ago and did my first vlog. You all were SUPER supportive. As I encourage you to move beyond your comfort zones, it’s only fair that I do the same. In that vlog, I mentioned that I’d be doing a webinar next. Well, I’m pushing through with that one too.
